Those pining for a return to the seedier days of Times Square will enjoy their stay at the New York Inn, a rugged (at best), five-story walk-up squeezed between the last standing porn shops on Eighth Ave. Just a few blocks from the Port Authority Bus Terminal, this 45-room discount hotel welcomes guests with a narrow entryway and a twitchy front desk clerk who seems to have stepped out of an episode of NYPD Blue . If these walls could talk, their stories would probably center on prostitutes and junkies, though the hotel does get its share of families, as well. The rooms are appropriately affordable and room service is available, albeit in the form of delivery from the Papa John's and Subway located in the lobby. Another relic of the Koch era: The red beret-wearing, crime fighting Guardian Angels have their headquarters next door.
